Whenever a soldier started complaining about a task or griping that it didn’t make any sense, I’d usually smile and say, “Hey, numbnuts, embrace the suck. You should’ve gone to college.” It became one of my go-to lines. The truth was, not every assignment was logical. Some jobs were downright ridiculous, and others seemed like a complete waste of time. But they were still our orders, and they still had to get done. Complaining never changed the mission—it only delayed it.
